The Art of Marvin Raphael
If we had to use one word to encapsulate the visual style of artist Marvin Raphael if would have to be texture. Not only are his paintings defined by thick brush strokes and textured layers of paint, but his use of discarded cosmetics, recycled fabrics, and bric-a-brac as media bring extra depth to his art.
And his artworks are already layered with meaning.
Whether it’s a quick watercolour of Pop Diva Kylie Minogue, a commute-view sketch of a crush-worthy boy, or a collaboration from discarded textiles and thread — there’s always a story and an underlying connection to the issues and community causes close to his heart. Environmentalism, LGBTQ equality, and human rights.
Oh, and a la mode fashion.
Monfort is living proof that you can live a sustainable lifestyle and still look amazing.
Community and Activism
Apart from his profile in the Philippine arts community, Marvin is also a well known environmental activist in the city of Iloilo — organising weekly climate strikes and participating in environmental education programs.

Though a proud advocate for LGBTQ rights and equality, environmentalism is actually the cause closest to his heart.
It’s this passion for low impact living, minimalism, and eco-awareness that informs his art on so many levels — from the subject matter, to the materials used, and (most importantly) the materials not used.
Says Monfort:
It is a challenge to be eco chic but it can be done. Refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle. Upcycle. One just figures things out day to day, moment to moment, one challenge at a time.
We are thrilled to add his eco-art, haute fashionistas, and brown-skinned glam girls to our catalogue of premium cross stitch patterns. They look simply amazing and are so much fun to stitch. Check them out.
