Description
Our Birth of Venus Cross Stitch Pattern chart was inspired by the early Renaissance painting of the same name by Italian artist Sandro Botticelli. It’s a very famous painting that features Venus, the Goddess of Love and Desire emerging from the sea.
The Project
We won’t kid you, this is a big cross stitch project — it measures more than 90cm x 60cm and requires 150 different DMC colours. But remember the original painting is almost 3 times bigger than our cross stitch.
We spent time making sure the charts are true to the original painting, with enough detail to capture the breath of Zephyrus carrying flowers and the hair of Venus, as well as the texture of the trees, sea ripples, and floral motifs on the dress of Hora.
If you’re up for the challenge you’ll be rewarded with an amazing piece of art that is sure to be a talking point in your home, office, or studio for many years.
PATTERN KEEPER: look for the extra chart in your download pack that has been specially formatted for Pattern Keeper App. We recommend using Pattern Keeper to manage large, full coverage cross stitch.
The Artist
Sandro Botticelli (birth name Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi) was an Italian Renaissance painter who lived from 1445-1510 (approx). He is famous for his mythological and religious paintings and for his work on the Sistine Chapel, which preceded Michelangelo by almost a century.
Botticellis’ paintings are some of the most famous in the world and we have transformed many of them into beautiful cross stitch projects, look for them here in the store.
