Description
Deer at the Torii Gateway Cross Stitch Pattern is a replica of a famous Japanese woodblock by Ohara Koson. The stunning design was created around 1910 and many of the resulting prints are now owned by western museums and galleries.
The Project
This wide, narrow design is completed in warm grey and sepia tones. The project measures 72.6 x 23.8cm when stitched on 14 count Aida cloth.
The stag and his doe are in all-black but there is extraordinary detail in the cloud-covered moon and the light reflecting across the wrinkled sea. We’ve even managed to keep an interpretation of the artist’s insignia in the bottom right-hand corner.
PATTERN KEEPER: look for the extra chart in your download pack that works perfectly with the Pattern Keeper App. We recommend Pattern Keeper for large cross stitch projects.
The Artist
Ohara Koson was a Japanese Shin-hanga artist who lived from 1877-1945. We adore his bird and nature paintings and have had lots of fun charting them into counted cross stitch patterns. Look for more Koson Cross Stitch in-store.
