Description
Memories of Olive cross stitch pattern was inspired by a tribute to the gorgeous silent film actress, Olive Thomas. After her accidental death at age 26 she was forever immortalised by pin-up painter and artist Alberto Vargus.
The Girl
Olive Thomas was one of the very first celebrity movie stars of the silent film era. She was also a famous illustrator’s model and pin-up girl. Olive died while in Paris after accidentally swallowing her husband’s syphilis medication, mistaking it for sleeping tonic.
The Project
Memories of Olive cross stitch has all the glamour of the silver screen and is a bit naughty too. Though we prefer the design on a light neutral toned background, it also works with warm tones.
You’ll need 19 different DMC thread colours to complete the design and we suggest starting in the centre of the project, possibly near Olive’s left thumbnail. We think you’ll particularly enjoy recreating the textures and shine of her brown satin stole and hair.
The Artist
Alberto Vargus was a Latin American painter who lived between 1896 and 1982, he was famous for painting pin-up girls for posters, cards, and men’s magazines. We’ve transformed some of his earlier works into kitsch cross stitch patterns for you to stitch.
