Monochrome Flowers Cross Stitch Pattern

$8.90 USD

Bring some retro style to your favourite frame with this monochrome still life.

We think you’ll love cross stitching this simple vase of flowers using only black thread on white Aida cloth. Even with one colour, the design has extraordinary texture and shadows.

Description

Monochrome Flowers Cross Stitch pattern was inspired by the 1916 woodcut design ‘Vaas Met Bloemen’ by Dutch painter and graphic artist Julie de Graag. It’s a simple still life in black and white, and the artist creates amazing shadows and textures with short lines.

The Project

We are thrilled to develop this cross stitch pattern and recreate the fine detail of the blooms and the etchings on the vase. We’ve also done our best to retain its vintage appeal by including the artist’s original insignia (inc. date). Best of all the project only requires black thread.

The Artist

Julie de Graag lived between 1877 and 1924 and painted in the original Art Nouveau style. Her paintings and drawings focus on everyday subjects like domestic pets, farm animals, insects and spiders — as well as leaves, flowers, and people of the village.

Her work is defined by thick outlines and a minimalist colour palette (very often just black and white). Check the store for more Art Nouveau designs by Julie de Graag. They look amazing in cross stitch.
