Description
Psyche and the Golden Box cross stitch pattern is a replica of a 1903 oil painting by British artist John William Waterhouse. It’s classic Romantic period in rich, glowing colours and features the beautiful maiden Psyche ensnared in a trap set by the jealous Venus, Goddess of Love.
The Mortal
Psyche’s innocence and beauty stirs the wrath of Venus, so she commands her son Cupid to destroy the mortal princess in a series of calculating tricks. The plan backfires when Cupid falls in love with Psyche, enraging Venus all the more.
Like all good fairy tales, it all turns out fine in the end, with Cupid convincing the ruling God Zeus to make his beloved immortal and Venus actually dancing at their wedding.
Psyche remains a symbol of purity, humility, and unyielding commitment to true love — beautiful themes for your cross stitch gallery.
The Project
