Japanese Shin-hanga Cross Stitch

Are you looking for a bold, exciting cross stitch in bright colours? How about these magnificent parrots in primary red and blue tones?

We think you’ll also love the muted greens, accent bell-flowers, and long tall design.

Description

Red and Blue Parrots Cross Stitch Pattern is a replica of a Japanese Shin-hanga painting from the last century (circa. 1920s). Though we cannot be 100% certain, the birds in this stunning design may well be the green-winged macaw (red) and the hyacinth macaw (blue).

The Project

This is a large cross stitch that measures 29.2cm x 77.5cm when stitched on 14 count Aida cloth. The project is NOT full coverage, so you are only stitching the birds, leaves, and flowers (32,091 stitches). You’ll need 90 different DMC thread tones and about 1m x 1/2m of Aida.

The Artist

Ohara Koson (aka: Shōson) was a Japanese artist and painter  who lived from 1877-1945. We have charted some of his fantastic paintings into counted cross stitch patterns. Check them out in-store.
