Description
Our Shepherd Dog cross stitch pattern was inspired by a 1917 woodcut design by Dutch painter and graphic artist Julie de Graag.
It’s a striking depiction of a tall, confident dog (possibly a Dutch Shepherd) and includes the artist’s insignia in the top left — as well as a dedication voor Ineke (for Ineke) along the bottom right.
We love the simplicity of the design, plus the artist’s initials, year, and dedication add to its vintage appeal.
It’s loads of fun to stitch on white Aida using only black thread. And if you don’t like the insignia and dedication, you can easily leave them out.
The Artist
Dutch graphic artist Julie de Graag lived between 1877 and 1924 and produced a stunning body of work — mostly in monocrhome. If you like Shepherd Dog cross stitch pattern you might like other projects inspired by the work of Julie de Graag.
