Description
Showgirl Glamour cross stitch pattern was inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s 1954 tour of the Korean front. Over 4 days she performed 10 concerts to the adoring servicemen in freezing conditions — wearing only a sparkling dress and strappy heels dress. She eventually caught pneumonia.
This cross stitch is our interpretation of the first concert and her vivacious personality. It’s sure to glam up a boring wall or add some interest to your military memorabilia.
The Project
Showgirl Glamour cross stitch measures 18.1cm x 27.6cm (100×152 stitches) when stitched on 14 count Aida. It’s actually quite tricky as we’ve used a lot of confetti and DMC colours to represent Marilyn’s sparkling dress and giant hoop earrings, plus the 13,000 Marines who attended. If you look closely you’ll notice the blue dressing gown of a wounded Marine (bottom left), it seems these guys were given front row seats to the concert.
