Description
Sitting Up With a Sick Friend cross stitch pattern is a detailed replica from the Dogs Playing Poker paintings, by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. In this particular scene the dogs are well into their card game when the wives suddenly burst in (at 11:11pm no less), upturning cards and loosening their umbrellas (and their tongues) onto the hounds. One old dog is down on all fours trying to get away.
The Project
This is a large, full coverage cross stitch and the finished piece measures 72.6 x 56.1cm when stitched on 14 count Aida cloth (400 x 269 stitches). We think you love stitching the fun details from the original painting including the facial expressions of the dogs, the drinks, cigars, clock sitting on 23:11, and garish upholstery in classic kitsch colours.
It’s quite a challenging piece as there is a lot of similar colours and fine details, but don’t worry. Our charts work perfectly with the Pattern Keeper App — just look for the extra PK chart in your download pack.
The Artist
Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (aka Kash Coolidge) was an American painter, most famous for his Dogs Playing Poker paintings which were commissioned for a series of calendars in 1903. We have more replicas of Coolidge’s work here in our store and have been steadily working on the whole set of 16 x paintings.
