Sophistication Cross Stitch Pattern

$8.40 USD

Want to cross stitch an Art Nouveau symbol of beauty, confidence and sophistication?

How about this portrait of a confidently beautiful woman — her hair, eyes, lips, and jewellery exquisitely captured in simple black stitches.

Description

We named this pattern Sophistication Cross Stitch, though it was actually inspired by a simple pencil drawing. Portret van een vrouw was created by Dutch painter and graphic artist Julie de Graag in the early 1920s.

It’s a simple monochrome portrait of a woman, and we just love how the strong black lines create such a confident and beautiful woman.

This is such a great project to stitch, and only requires white Aida cloth and plain black thread.

The Artist

Julie de Graag was a Dutch painter and graphic artist who lived between 1877 and 1924. Her work is classic Art Nouveau and she is well known for her amazing woodcut prints of everyday subjects – pets, farm animals, garden insects and flowers.

We adore Julie de Graag’s work and have charted a large number of her art pieces into fabulous cross stitch patterns. You can browse her dedicated space in the store.
