Dancer in Cross Stitch

Looking for something modish and chic for your favourite wall? This 1920 theatre costume (concept painting) for Spanish dance is the perfect cross stitch project

Description

Spanish Dance Costume cross stitch was inspired by a vintage costume design concept (1920) by  avant-garde artist Alexandra Exter. We just love the strong cubist lines and the warm colour palette, a mix of dark reds, hot pinks, lavender, and plum.

The Project

Now you can recreate this vintage, but totally à la mode costume design in the bold DMC palette (eggplant, plum and peacock). You’ll love stitching the dancer’s haughty pose and textured gown.

We think this would look great at the entrance of a contemporary office, salon, or inner-city terrace — anywhere you need something chic and sophisticated.

The Artist

Alexandra Exter (born Aleksandra Ekster) was an avante-garde painter, costume and set designer who worked between Paris, Rome and Moscow. She was a contemporary of Picasso and Marcel Duchamp. We love Exter’s paintings of the theatre and her costume concepts, look for them in cross stitch here in the store.
