Quaker-style motif

Here’s a little star medallion for you to cross stitch absolutely free. It would look great on a greeting card or small canvas tote. You could even make your own cross stitch sampler.

Star Medallion cross stitch was inspired by traditional Quaker embroidery and many variations of this design can be found on antique samplers. It’s a quick project and lots of fun to stitch.

Ann Grimshaw Sampler

If you’re interested in the history of embroidery you can check out a variation of this geometric design on an actual vintage sampler (dated 1818) @ Philadelphia Museum of Art.

This star medallion was very popular choice on Ackworth School embroidery projects and we’ve seen other variations of the medallion dating as early as 1799.
