Description
The Hireling Shepherd cross stitch pattern is a replica of an 1851 oil painting by British artist William Holman Hunt. In this attractive scene, a handsome young shepherd courts a young maiden — completely oblivious that his sheep are wandering into the neighbouring orchard and cornfield.
The Project
This project is one the largest we have in our store. Measuring 108.9cm x 75.8cm (600 x 418 stitches) when completed on 14 count Aida, the finished piece is the same size as the actual painting. We’ve rated the project ChallengingPLUS because of the massive chart size and the 193 different DMC colours you’ll need to complete the project.
Ok, now for the good stuff. This cross stitch looks incredible. The colours are vibrant and exciting and we’ve captured all the fine details from the painting — summer blossoms, golden meadows, textured garments, ginger-haired lovers, bare feet in cool stream, and (of course) the sheep in the corn. If you love romance, country scenes, and beautiful symbols of fertility, abundance, and courtship, this cross stitch is for you.
PLEASE NOTE: we’ve included an extra chart in your download pack that has been specially formatted for the Pattern Keeper App. PK is the best way to manage large full coverage cross stitch.
